We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Real Estate Paralegal to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial retail real estate, with the ability to support a wide range of legal tasks. These include preparing and negotiating lease agreements, handling lease amendments, drafting assignment and assumption agreements, and assisting with various corporate and legal documents among other administrative duties. In addition to legal drafting and document management, the Paralegal will play a key role in supporting operational functions such as tenant relations, contract management, and risk mitigation.
The successful candidate will possess a high level of integrity, attention to detail, and the ability to contribute to the overall success of our commercial real estate operations while maintaining corporate standards.
Responsibilities
Lease Agreement Management
- Prepare, review, and negotiate commercial lease agreements to ensure compliance with legal and corporate standards,
- Draft and review lease amendments, ensuring accuracy and alignment with client needs and objectives.
- Assist in the preparation and execution of assignment and assumption agreements as well as other agreements.
Legal and Corporate Document Support
- Assist in the drafting, preparation, and review of various legal documents related to commercial real estate transactions.
- Provide support for real estate transactions, including due diligence, title reviews, and related corporate filings.
Administrative Support
- Answer and direct incoming calls, addressing client inquiries or forwarding to appropriate team members.
- Manage filing systems, both electronic and physical, ensuring that documents are properly organized and accessible.
- Assist in maintaining and updating legal files, tracking deadlines, and managing workflow to ensure timely completion of tasks.
General Legal Support
- Assist with research, document drafting, and preparation for meetings.
- Perform other administrative and legal tasks as needed to support the efficient functioning of the legal team.
- Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Legal and/or VP, Corporate Secretary
Qualifications
- Must have a minimum of 3 - 5 years’ prior experience in commercial real estate.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Office software, Outlook and DocuSign.
- Excellent communication skills and customer focus.
- Well organized with excellent time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect pertinent data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and initiate appropriate course of action.
