Repositioning legacy properties through renovation and/or redevelopment plays an important role in the evolution of retailing. A 72,000-square-foot anchor lease by ShopRite marked the start of a new chapter for Blue Star Shopping Center, where Levin is taking major steps to redevelop, renovate and re-tenant the 420,000-square-foot, decades-old retail property to better serve – and attract – regional consumers.
The firm secured land use approvals, and its in-house construction team is spearheading a 12 million program of center-wide renovation to modernize Blue Star Shopping Center. This includes façade and common area updates, an extensive landscaping redesign, and the addition of outdoor seating. New lighting, parking lot refurbishments and the incorporation of infrastructure to support EV charging stations are also in the plan. ShopRite is heading the ground-up development of its brand-new, larger store at the property; following the relocation, LMC will reconfigure the vacated store to accommodate multiple tenants.
