Top-Ranked Grocer Commits to 30,000 SF at Commack, N.Y., Retail Property
Lidl, a top-ranked U.S. grocer, is continuing its East Coast expansion with a new store in Commack, leasing 30,000 square feet at Mayfair Shopping Center. Commercial real estate services firm Levin Management Corporation (LMC) secured the commitment as exclusive leasing and managing agent for the 222,000-square-foot retail property on Jericho Turnpike.
Lidl will take over the space formerly occupied by Stein Mart. “The Commack community has long benefitted from the convenience of having a grocery anchor at Mayfair Shopping Center, and it is welcome news – for both area residents and the property’s in-place tenants – that a growing company like Lidl has chosen to locate here,” said LMC’s E.J. Moawad, leasing representative. “This is a strong, accessible shopping center with a built-in customer base. It proved to be the ideal location for Lidl’s continued growth into this market, and we are excited to introduce the chain’s efficient approach to grocery shopping here.”
The Commack location marks Lidl’s newest food market in New York with three more under development. It is the second Lidl lease – and the first in the state – secured by LMC, which has a long history as a grocery-anchored retail specialist. Lidl first established its U.S. headquarters in Arlington County, Va., in June 2015, and today sells its award-winning products in more than 150 stores across nine East Coast states. Lidl offers customers the highest-quality fresh produce, meat, bakery items and a wide array of household products at unbelievably low prices. The company was recently ranked a Top 3 U.S. Grocer by USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards.
The Lidl commitment continues a flurry of leasing activity at Mayfair Shopping Center. In recent months LMC brought three new, soon-to-open dining tenants – JBBQ Shabu Shabu, Meet Bar & Izakaya and Bagel Toastery – as well as specialty food store The Crushed Olive to the property. These transactions followed a 20,000-square-foot commitment last year with also soon-to-open gym chain Planet Fitness.
Mayfair Shopping Center’s impressive lineup of national and regional tenants also includes Capital One Bank, Jos. A. Bank, Loft, Music & Arts, Northwell Go Health, D’Ore Jewelers, Original Brooklyn Pizza, Outback Steakhouse, Prato 850, Rite Aid, Sherwin Williams, The Tutoring Center, Tropical Smoothie and Verizon Wireless, among others.
Situated just east of the Sunken Meadow Parkway, Mayfair Shopping Center serves a growing residential population of more than 200,000 people within a five-mile radius. The marketplace offers an average household income of more than $145,000, and more than 23,000 vehicles pass the center each day.
